Our CORE Team

Pastor Jonathan

I came to Grace UMC in January 2023. I hold a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, and a Master of Arts in Jewish Studies (Hebrew Bible) from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. One of my goals as a pastor is to help the congregation learn to read scripture so that it comes alive for its people. In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing and spending time with family.

I became a member of Grace when I was 14 years old and have served in some capacity since then.  Today, I am active with the community dinner and as Core Team chair.  In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and kids, cooking, reading and browsing antique stores.

My family began attending Grace Church when I was five years old (1952) so I grew up here with my brother, sister, and friends. I’ve been attending or associated with Grace ever since. Here I learned the lessons, desires and principles that God wants for all of us through his Holy Word, and from his followers, servants, and teachers. I met my wife, Kathy (Jobe), in Sunday School in fifth grade, we were married here (1971), and our children were all Baptized in the Sanctuary. I currently lead the worship service singing, and serve on our Core Leadership Team.

I am inspired by the belief in Jesus, who has taught us how to live and son of God, our creator and Father. This has created my passion for serving others.  I hold a master degree. I have a broad range of skills from more than 32 years at University Hospital and 15 years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital prior to retirement 10 years ago.  My favorite part about retirement is having coffee with Jesus and the time to develop that relationship. I believe faith in Jesus and hope are the keys to emotional survival. And the difference between those who survive trauma/ brokenness and those who don’t are those who get support through the healing journey. I was raised in Grace Church and returned here to serve in missions with some of people I have known for much of my life.

I am the facilities manager for the church.  I have been associated with the church since 2010.  My wife and I attended from 2010 to 2018, when I became a licensed local pastor at another Methodist church.  Five years later (2023) I left that church for family reasons and came back to Grace.  I feel God wants me at Grace at this time to help out as much as I can.

I have been a member of Grace Church for approximately 65 years. Grace Church welcomes all people, and exudes passion and joy for the God who loves us.  We welcome you to join us.

I started going to Grace in high school to a few years after college. When my father became a Pastor I moved to his church for support. Now that he has retired I am happily back at Grace. I am in charge of keeping Grace Church’s Facebook page and website updated as well as sending out weekly newsletters. In my free time, I enjoy doing crafts of any kind, reading and doing puzzles.
